Introduction

BhanteBhaddekaratta Hermitage was established in 1999 by Venerable Vajiradhamma. It is located at Batu Pahat in the state of Johor in West Malaysia, about 3 hrs from KLIA airport and 2 hrs from Singapore by car. The Hermitage is surrounded by a lush forest reserve and oil palm plantation, providing a tranquil and conducive environment for meditation practice.

The Hermitage welcomes people with serious intent in meditation practice. All yogis have to observe the 8 precepts. Yogis are required to stay a minimum of 5 days as time is required for yogis to understand the fundamentals which will help them gain faith in the Buddha’s teachings. Those who request for a retreat for less than 5 days should seek permission from Bhante.

Lodgings and food are provided free of charge. Please note there is no food allowed after lunch. Yogis are expected to make full use of their time in the Hermitage for meditation. Use of computer, mobiles-phones, etc are prohibited. People who intend to make use of the Hermitage for recuperative purposes, solicitation of business or people who cannot take care of themselves are not allowed to stay.

In the Buddha’s teachings, there are 40 objects of concentration. Our Hermitage mainly focuses on the anapanasati method, (awareness of in breath and out breath) to achieve concentration (calmness). However we may also cater to individual needs and guide them through an appropriate method.

When the yogi has attained concentration (purification of mind) he or she may go into Vipassana for the development of Insight Knowledge (purification of wisdom) towards the attainment of Nibbana, the Highest Bliss.
